Considering her behavior over the past few months, I don't understand why Sara should be so surprised that Grissom recommended Nick for the promotion instead of her. I mean, there are times when she's behaved like a child. And her attitude problem in "Feel the Heat" and "After the Show" didn't help, either. Being a CSI should be about bringing criminals to justice. It should not be about being promoted, earning more money, and winning your crush's approval.
Nick deserved that promotion, and Sara will just have to deal with it. I'm just disappointed that Nick never did receive that promotion, and I hope Sara doesn't cause trouble.
The one thing that stands out as far as Nick is concerned (Well, other than his good looks, cute accent, and charming smile) is the fact that he is so selfless. He wasn't obsessed with receiving the promotion, and he was more concerned about bringing criminals to justice. He's mild-mannered and sweet-natured, which comes in handy when you're talking to crime victims and the survivors of those who've been murdered. Granted, he tends to be a little immature at times, but never to the extent where his immaturity interferes with his job.
Sara, on the other hand, has a lot to learn. She could take a few lessons from Nick on how to treat suspects, especially the masculine variety. What she did in "Feel the Heat" was inexcusable. She is incredibly self-involved and, instead of taking this personally, she needs to ask Grissom what she could do to improve herself in the professional sense.
Not that it - in any way - excuses what Sara's done this season (And, in fact, these past few years), but I think she's suffering from burn-out. I'd imagine that happens a lot to CSIs (fictional and non-fictional), because look at what they deal with on a daily (or in this case, nightly) basis. And speaking as someone who's been rejected numerous times by those she's loved, I know that being refused by Grissom only adds on to that stress.
